Few other regions revere legends of dragons more than the Scarred Wasteland. After all, what is a legend other than a tale of a dragon who has survived, and has survived the best? Thus they speak of the legend of the wildclaw with a pack of wolves made of steel and bone, sinew and wire, killing those who have wronged others enough to have bounties on their heads. The Houndmistress, they call her, the Alpha, the Pack Leader, the Midnight Scourge--all titles that Mellori has heard one point or another, and all of them are largely meaningless.

She stands tall and confident, a snarling, bristling force wearing a ragged black wolf pelt. She's covered in numerous faint silvery scars as a result of years of fighting for her life, her wings somewhat tattered. The fur around her muzzle has hints of gray and she's certainly in her prime--yet few would dare pick a fight with the Houndmaster. She walks with confident assurance in her ability and in her Pack, fearless in the face of any foe or danger. Little seems to ruffle her and she's often seen with a smirk of dry amusement.

Mellori worries little about what others may think or do to her, maintaining a generally aloof attitude. Little seems to faze her and she's generally apathetic towards the affairs of others or what they may think or do. However, she has a ferocious loyalty to her twin daughters Kalea and Kyrja. Only a handful of times has someone tried to hurt her children, and all who have tried came out of it with horrific injuries meant to cause ceaseless suffering.

Few alive remember Mellori as a young whelp. She was skittish and cowardly, jumping at shadows and always ready to bolt at the slightest hint of danger. As custom for most Plague dragons, Mellori was chased out when she was mature enough to defend herself, and spend a harrowing several months trying to scrape by on her own, crisscrossing Sornieth and never staying in one place. It was through sheer luck that she found a small clan in Lightning that took her in, where she was given a job as a day guard. There she met her future mate, a coatl named Ixchel and her fellow day guard. The two became close, and Mellori slowly grew less fearful thanks to Ixchel's companionship. In time, the two became mates and even adopted a son together, a young imperial named Caderyn.

It was when raiders forced the clan to disperse for survival's sake and she was split from her mate that Mellori finally grew confident in herself. She spent time among a Shadow clan known for their kennel of wolves, and the kennelmaster at the time gave Mellori a young black wolf pup as a gift. It was the first wolf in Mellori's Pack and would start her on the path to becoming the Houndmistress. When she was finally reunited with her clan and family, she took a more active role in assisting the defense of the territory, becoming scouts alongside Ixchel.

But fate was cruel. She could not defend her clan against the Shade when it came, and the Shade ravaged the clan entirely. Her mate and child fell victim to it, and she desperately tried to save them, only for the Shade to leave their corpses hollow. With the deaths of her family, a part of Mellori died as well.

She became savage, near feral. By now her Pack had grown to include steelhounds and had become sizeable, and she haunted the lands of Plague after the clan she was a part of fled out Lightning out of desperation. She tore apart any who dared to trespass and even then sought out dragons to kill out of anger and grief, trying to claw some sort of justice out of life. She would have continued her path of destruction were it not for Kalea. The young whelp was given to her, and Mellori was reluctant to keep such a whelpling that was sister to her lost son. Yet for all her efforts to not grow attached, the Pack adopted the young dragon and soon the Whelp was adopted by Mellori, named Kalea and given Caderyn's old armor. Shortly after, Kyrja came into Mellori's life and the walls began to come crumbling down as Mellori began to heal.

She travels Sornieth as she pleases, wandering often in the Plaguelands as it is familiar territory, but she dips into the territories of other Flights as well. She offers services as a mercenary--never staying long in one place but often shifting the tides of battles before vanishing in the night alongside her daughters and her Pack.

Legends of the Alpha, the Midnight Scourge, the Houndmaster always follow in her wake.

Black Wolf
LONAN
QUIET | LOYAL | SERIOUS

Lonan is the first wolf Mellori owned--he was given to her long ago as a gift from a now destroyed clan, and the age shows some. Whereas his fur used to be pitch black, now it has faint streaks of a pale silvery-gray, a result of stress and old age. The Pack still listens to him as Alpha, but he leaves any physical shows of force to Lark these days to put any of the more defiant hounds in their place. Still, he maintains his position through wit and capability--he's the cleverest of the Pack, smarter than the steel and bone hounds, than the young Lark and the strange Linnet. Kalea, ever attuned to Shadow magic, claims there's more to Lonan than meets the eye--no normal wolf has so much shadow magic resting within them.
Black Wolf
LARK
PLAYFUL | HASTY | UNINHIBITED

Young and bright, Lark was the second of the black wolves to join Mellori's Pack, a gift from a different allied clan. Lark's animated and lively, often running circles around Lonan and the Pack. Her lean, small size gives her plenty of speed, and she seems to have energy for days, favoring Kalea for being equally energetic and playful. Lonan is grooming the young wolf to take his place as Alpha, and recently Lark's been given more responsibility in keeping the Pack in order. She's taken on the mantle well enough, and the Pack responds well to her leadership.
Black Wolf
LINNET
SECRETIVE | FICKLE | CHARMING

Linnet has always been odd. Mellori knew that, since the wolf with dark blue eyes was set in her path. Mellori could sense the magic on her--that the wolf was more than a wolf and there was something beyond her--but Mellori never cared. Linnet followed orders well enough, and no repercussions ever came of the wolf. And if it had, Mellori knows she would have handled whatever threat it was without concern, and so Linnet has her place as the third black wolf in Mellori's ranks.
Steelhound Scrapmetal Tracker Wraith Hound Infestation Hound

The bulk of Mellori's Pack, the hounds are creatures made out of thin, resilient steel and sharp, durable bone. They're a strange amalgamation of Lightning and Plague design, and the older the hound, the more metallic they are. They were created long ago by an engineer Mellori has long since lost contact with, and lacking any dragons capable of fixing the designs, Mellori turned to Plague to maintain her hounds. They're kept alive and running in a weird mixture of necromancy and engineering, and the 'youngest' of the Pack are almost entirely creatures of bone, slavering bonehounds that grin with wide jaws streaked red with previous prey. The Pack is well-known across the Plaguelands as a force of great destruction, held back only by the Houndmistress' word.
