Unearthly

The largest and newest tunnel branching out from the clan's central cave is decorated with bubbles of light that cast an amber glow across the rough rock walls and floor. Following this tunnel leads you to the clan's library, a new endeavor headed by clan elders Unearthly and Warpwind. The room is brightly lit despite being underground, with its tall ceilings clustered in glowing lanterns and enchanted light bubbles. Shelves are bored into the cave walls, sparsely stocked with reading materials in the form of tomes, scrolls, and loose papers. Pillows of various sizes blanket the rough cave floor to provide a resting spot for reading dragons. The air smells of a natural blend of herbs and spices, setting a comforting atmosphere.

"Welcome!" A giant Imperial unfolds himself from his place to your left, making you jump - you hadn't realized he was there amongst all the sensory scenery. He furls the scroll he was reading back into its waterproof case and rests it on his desk.

"My name is Unearthly, and I am the head librarian here. Have you come in search of something to read? We just finished building the library very recently, and our team is still working on sourcing more reading material..." he trails off, gazing at nothing for a split second. Before you can blink, he remembers himself. "But! There's plenty to enjoy, regardless! What kind of books interest you?"




Unearthly is a pragmatic, well-read, and long-lived dragon with a firm vision of Sunbeam Grotto's future. It's a good thing he's always willing to partake in a debate - there exist many points of contention between Sunbeam Grotto's council of elders (and the interpretations of Unearthly's favorite texts). In an effort to further his clan's development and invite dragons across Sunbeam Grotto's freshly open borders, Unearthly and his partner Warpwind founded the clan's library.

Unearthly takes great pride in his post as clan librarian. During the hours he spends in the artificially-lit cave, he works to store and share the tales of his clan and others with any dragons who wish to read them. This is evident by the cave room's design as well as its decor - the library has entrances from the various regions of possible patrons' quarters, and the comfortable seats range in all sizes.

While it holds a selection of tales written by clan members, the library's expansion relies on traveling storytellers to supply reading material from neighboring and far-off clans. One such dragon is Dusk, Warpwind's apprentice. Unearthly has grown to care for the young and clever dragon much like he notices his partner does.

Ultimately, Unearthly is grateful for his second chance at life. His work with the library honors his clanmates in the past and future, preserving the many stories of Sunbeam Grotto. Unearthly wishes for the dragons of his clan to feel comfort in their home.

Though much of his adult life was spent in a state of magical hibernation, Unearthly and his fellow elders are beginning to feel the effects of their advanced age. As the novelty of planning and constructing the clan's library has long since passed, Unearthly has found himself struggling to complete all his many duties in a single day. Some dragons, Unearthly included, haven't much practice in admitting to their faults, but to his credit, Unearthly took the advice offered by his partner and peers and began the search for an apprentice...



"Some of our clan members have donated tales of their own writing to fill our library. Look over this way -"

With a swish of his tail, the Imperial beckons you to a set of shelves across the room from his desk. He pauses as you skim the titles, taking in not only the words but the presentation of each story.

"A Brief History of Sunbeam Grotto: From Cave to Clan" - appears to be anything but brief. The strongest of Fae would struggle lifting this huge tome. From the intricate designs etched into the book's cover, to its neat handwritten pages, it's clear that the long-winded dragon who wrote this dearly cares for the clan and has done so since its early days.

"My Strangest Hunt Yet" - is a single sheet of paper with marks on the side indicating it was torn out of a book. The penmanship is little more than a scrawl, so the author must be someone who doesn't write often.

"A Day In My Life" - seems to be a stack of papers held together with a bent metal clip. The pages are slightly crumpled with drawings in the margins, but the writing is painstakingly tidy with simple vocabulary. Perhaps a hatchling's essay?

"Let me know if you have any questions," Unearthly says behind you in a low voice. "You may see some of my fellow workers come and go throughout your stay here, since we are very busy developing our vision here - I hope they don't disturb your experience. If you need anything, I will be at my desk."

With that, he quietly pads back across the room. You take a moment to settle down upon a pillow, breathe in the potpourri-scented air, and begin reading your selection.
