Cardinal grew up lonely, not for a lack of siblings and clanmates to talk to, but for his own interests taking precedent over niceties. He didn't understand how to speak to dragons without unsettling them in some fashion. At first it bothered him, the uncomfortable smiles and excuses to leave. Was it his difficulty with eye contact? His monotone voice? The dry and intense way he'd get to talking about math?

It wasn't until he answered a call for an accountant in the depths of the Icewarden's domain that he found himself feeling altogether useful. He spends his days advising and projecting profits, happy to keep on topic with the boss.

They ask if he ever gets tired of it, ever wants more out of life, and he does. That doesn't stop him enjoying what he has, though, doesn't stop him being 'quite emotionally balanced' in his words.

It was the Fae, Yore, who told him he was very like herself in speaking, in relating to other dragons. She told him that was a wonderful thing, and that he should never let anyone make fun of him for it. He thanked her.
